Folk Songs of North America by Alan Lomax
American Songbag, Carl Sandburg - a classic anthology of American folksongs published by the poet Carl Sandburg in 1927. It is available free to read and download on the internet. Song Fest by Dick and Beth Best - A collection of 300 songs sung by college students in the mid 20th century, published by the Intercollegiate Outing Club Association.
Starlight on the Rails and other songs - Utah Phillips - an updated and expanded version of Utah's 1973 songbook. The new version presents 84 songs complete with chords, lyrics, and background stories written by Utah Phillips himself.

Included with each song are the lyrics and a free audio clip. A great resource for community singing.
The Max Hunter Collection is an archive of almost 1600 Ozark Mountain folk songs, recorded between 1956 and 1976.
Elija Wald - Songobiography — a musical memoir. Several hundred songs sung by Elija and posted on YouTube. A great singer and a great collection.
